Here’s to all those people who think they’re finally going to “get back on the right track this year” by exercising. The truth is – no, no you’re not. All you’re going to do is crowd up the gym for the first 2-3 weeks after New Years while you painstakingly learn how to use the elliptical and lift 5lb dumbbells (and I mean painstakingly for me having to watch you, more than for you having to actually do it). Just what I need to see while I’m doing my usual routine, some lady who looks like she hasn’t worked out since ever doing squats while rocking an Olivia Newton-John “Let’s Get Physical” leotard, happening about 5 feet directly in front of my eyelids.
So to all those ambitious souls out there – do the rest of society a small favor. Start this whole “getting back on the right track” thing slowly. Maybe start by taking a walk around your block a couple times a day. Possibly progress to jogging – a half a block at a time. And then work your way into trying to take down 3 miles at a 30 degree incline on the treadmill 3 feet to my left.
New Years Resolutions, at this point, what’s the point?
