St. Louis, MO – A growing number of Veteran’s from Operation Iraqi Freedom are beginning to question whether they ever actually went to Iraq. The movement is being lead by former Staff Sgt. John Perkins from Baton Rouge, LA who started an online support group called Where-Did-we-go.com after returning to the United States after two tours in what he thought was Iraq. “I never really thought about it until I got back to the states and people asked me what it was like. And I felt pretty silly explaining to people that I’d never actually seen an Iraqi in person”. Perkins said that as the months went by he began to wonder if he was ever really in Iraq, “Honestly, I don’t really know where I was, I remember flying on a plane with no windows, it landed somewhere, and then I went to a burger king, the gym, the movies and then a pizza hut. And pretty much every day after that I did the same thing for two years until I got back on another plane with no windows and I was home” Perkins said he formed the online support forum as way for fellow soldiers who question where they went as well to share their experiences. But, according to Perkins, the forum has not uncovered any real evidence that any of the site’s members had ever been to Iraq. “Everyone’s got the same story” says Perkins, “Gym, Tan Laundry and then lunch, even our unit CO is beginning to question if we actually left the US.
