A JetBlue flight had a narrow escape today when one of its engines caught fire midflight, filling the cabin with smoke. The passengers, including Twilight actor Jackson Rathbone, say they felt panic as the air became hard to breathe, but oxygen masks failed to descend.
Rathbone, who played vampire Jasper Hale in Twilight, Twilight: Breaking Dawn, and Twilight: New Moon parts One and Two, tweeted the disaster. “The oxygen masks did not deploy, but the brave stewardesses came around and manually deployed them. It was rough, the plane was rocking…” he said via WhoSay.
147 lives were at risk as the pilots struggled to return to the Long Beach airport. Jackson Rathbone’s full name is Monroe Jackson Rathbone V. He was born in Singapore and moved frequently with his family, as his father worked in the oil business - his great-great-grandfather, Monroe Jackson Rathbone II, was a founder of Mobil Oil. After high school he planned to attend drama school in Scotland, but chose to go to LA instead. His many roles include an arc as a serial killer on “Criminal Minds,” and Sokka in “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” He is known for his high cheekbones and dreamy blue eyes.
The plane landed safely. Jackson Rathbone will appear in the upcoming film “The Concerto.“
