Apparently we live in a world where some people think that Idris Elba isn’t the definition of perfect. Sure, people are allowed to have their opinions but there are some things that are right and some that are wrong. It’s not like we’re discussing cats or dogs here because no one can be allergic to Idris Elba and everyone, whether they realize it or not, is capable of bringing him into their home and loving him.
But Anthony Horowitz, the new author of the Bond novels, must not realize this. That must be why he told The Daily Mail that“Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”
It didn’t take long for Twitter to detect what Horowitz meant by saying “too street” (black) and let the writer know just how absolutely wack what he said was.
Mr. Horowitz finds Idris Elba too "street" (read: black) to be James Bond? Forget him, Idris. You'll never be too street for these sheets.— Jackée Harry (@JackeeHarry) September 1, 2015
James Bond author said Idris Elba was "too street." Other people he thought were too street: Will Smith, Wayne Brady, Desmond Tutu, Elmo...— Hari Kondabolu (@harikondabolu) September 1, 2015
Idris is "too street" to play James Bond. Meanwhile Elizabeth Taylor plays Cleopatra when she was clearly Egyptian & it's "Iconic". Hm— queen nile (@BriiiCarter) September 1, 2015
The second bone the masses have to pick is with the idiotic notion that Idris Elba isn’t suave. Hath ever a lie so grand been told?
IDRIS TOO STREET TO PLAY BOND (ITS CUZ HE WAS IN THE WIRE) BUT HOMIE GOT THE ILL TEA & CRUMPETS VOICE AND IS NEVER NOT IN A SUIT ON TV CMON— The Kid Mero (@THEKIDMERO) September 1, 2015
Sorry, what? Idris Elba is 'too street' to play Bond? Are you kidding me? HAVE YOU SEEN THAT MAN IN A SUIT? HAVE YOU SEEN THAT MAN?— meg (@megsiobhan) September 1, 2015
I question whether James Bond is suave enough to play Idris Elba.— Angus Johnston (@studentactivism) September 1, 2015

All this talk about Idris Elba got people pretty excited about…Idris Elba. Frankly, it’s hard to stay angry when he’s what we’re talking about.
IDRIS ELBA IS TOO STREET? OK BUT EXACTLY WHICH STREET BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE I WANNA BE— the blowout (@theblowout) September 1, 2015
Idris Elba is too busy starring IN MY DREAMS, he doesn't have time for Bond anyway— Danielle Henderson (@knottyyarn) September 1, 2015

Of course, some people weren’t too quick to let Anthony Horowitz off the line, just because everyone else was daydreaming about Idris Elba.
"Ugh, Idris Elba too 'street' to play James Bond?" (asks black friends what street means) (realizes I have no black friends) (deletes tweet)— Matt Oswalt (@puddinstrip) September 1, 2015

Finally, to calm everyone down, someone had to make a good point about who should actually be playing Bond.
