The internet went wild this week, when pizza musician Macaulay Culkin posted a photo of himself wearing a T-shirt of walking meme Ryan Gosling wearing a T-shirt of a Home Alone-era Culkin. The meta clothing-choice seemed to be the first of its kind, but a little digging shows that his is just the latest in a long line of Inception-style tees.
For those unaware, here’s the great Culkin/Gosling tee exchange, in all its glory.
Now of course, you probably all remember Justin Bieber wearing an iconic Kelly Kapowski tee to the 2011 MuchMusic Awards. Well, it didn’t take long for Tiffany (formerly Amber) Theissen to respond with this tee she wore to the premiere of Horrible Bosses.
Throughout the filming of 2010’s The Social Network, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and actor Jesse Eisenberg took subtle shots at each other by wearing novelty T-shirts that were, more often than not, completely covered by their respective hoodies.
On a very special episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Carlton paid tribute to his best friend (and himself) with this very special workout wear.
For some unknown reason, former sitcom star Reginald Vel Johnson tried forcing himself in on the fun. Having grown up a Family Matters fan, Zuckerberg agreed to play along during a very serious Facebook keynote address.
After Michael Jordan was spotted playing beer pong in a Jumpman T-shirt, the Jumpman decided to step out on his own and rock a very sporty (and most likely tagless) tank top.
And finally, while walking the red carpet for the TV Land Awards, Vel Johnson could be heard screaming, “Carl Winslow ain’t ever gonna stop wearing T-shirts of the celebs he loves wearing T-shirts of the celebs he loves!” He was taken into custody shortly thereafter.
