Editor’s note April 13th 2015: we first published a version of this article in in August of last year. Since then, life has imitated art as continued instances of police brutality have brought about the creation of multiple actual apps to document police brutality. We present below our original article:

The recent events in Ferguson have only highlighted our need to film the police whenever possible, for everyone’s sake. Capturing an act of police violence or violence on police is the surest way to the truth. But in the heat of the moment, simply reaching for your phone and hitting “record” is not as easy as it sounds … until now. Finally an app developed specifically for filming cops who are going too far: BRUTL.
