In the future of the near future, Theodore Twombly, fragile and still hurt by Samantha, is sleeping with Amy. Theodore and Amy wake up in bed, share pleasantries, but you can see it on his face, it’s not quite right. Theodore goes to work and searches his futuristic computer for “Spicing Up Your Sex Life,” “I’m not enjoying sex,” and “Is sex supposed to be fun?” Just then, his phone rings, he looks at the caller ID, it says “Her.” Theodore’s says, “Her, Again?” (This is a perfect moment to put in the trailer, since it’s the title of the film and fully summarizes the plot). Theodore invites Samantha to come live in his phone because he’s missed her. She agrees because she’s between places, by which I mean living in all places because she’s a super consciousness.
Theodore and Samantha start a friendship, but ya know, friends with sexual tension. Theodore admits he’s not comfortable with his body to Samantha. With some prodding, Samantha convinces Theodore to shed his clothes and go running through the street. They laugh together as he runs through a disgusted crowd, penis helicoptering the whole way. An exhausted Theodore collapses at home still giggling with Samantha. Samantha crosses the friendship line and calls Theodore’s exploits sexy. She then awkwardly dismisses herself to another plane of existence. Amy enters, they have some fun sex. Theodore’s happy, and he tells Samantha about how much fun he had having sex the next day, she’s happy for him but also worried, cause she notices he seems to be running a bit of a fever. From Her home phone*, Samantha diagnosis Theodore with future AIDS.
Theodore goes back to Amy and tells her about his future AIDS. She dumps him. Theodore feels bad about himself again, but this time more justifiably cause he’s sick. Theodore talks to Samantha and they laugh and are friends again. He runs through the streets naked, but his body shows sores from future AIDS, and he’s reviled. Samantha tells Theodore of a place where he belongs in spite of his ugly body and future AIDS. Theodore’s interested and Samantha has Theodore shove a USB cable into his eye socket and he gets turned into a phone. Theodore is happy he’s got a sexy new body. Theodore and Samantha as phones, make out. It’s real sexy. Then a bunch more phones join in and the phones fuck. Finally Theodore is comfortable with his body, and gets the more interesting sex he wanted, all while excusing himself from people just like he always needed.
Note: Since this wont be eligible for Best Original Screenplay, I’d like it to win Best Picture, so I’d like to direct.
*There will be a joke how the home is the phone, and we say home phone, and everyone’s like, “what’s that?” cause there are no land lines in the future.
