1. KINDERGARTEN WOLFARTSWEIER
In this kitty’s belly is placed a whole kindergarten. The building is designed by Tomi Ungerer and Ayla Suzan Yöndel in 2011. Its purpose is to turn on children’s imagination and bring more fun in their daily life.
2. CORRUGATED CREATIONS
Tirau, New Zealand
The next two images come from a small town in New Zealand, called Tirau. The Dog Shaped and the Sheep Shaped buildings are located on a same street and both were constructed in 1990s. The Dog Building is their local i-SITE Visitor Centre, while the Sheep Building has a simpler role - a wool and craft shop. Such huge buildings in untypical shapes are placed all over New Zealand.
3. DUCK OF FLANDERS
Flanders, New York
This is one of the oldest animal shaped buildings in our collection - built in 1931 by the local farmer, Martin Maurer. He used to sell ducks and duck eggs and the purpose of the building was absolutely promotional. This idea became not only a successful marketing and selling method, but the building earned so much fame that it is today one ofLong Island’s leading landmarks.
4. LUCY THE ELEPHANT
Margate City, New Jersey
Built of a million pieces of wood, weighing about 90 tons, this is the world’s largest Elephant Shaped building. It was called Lucy by its designer - James V. Lafferty. Lucy used to have business offices, a restaurant, and a tavern inside. Today She is a tourist attraction - a small museum of her own history. Lucy is not the only Lafferty’s architecture creation - he built three other giant elephant shaped buildings. One of the is placed in Coney Island, New York, and the other one - in Cape May.
5. FRESHWATER FISHING HALL OF FAME
The other museum in this collection is the fish shaped landmark “Shrine to Anglers”, located in the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. It is hand-sculpted and shaped as a giant Muskie with a wide-open jaw, where an observation platform is placed, capable of accommodating more than 20 persons.
6. DOG BARK PARK INN
The biggest beagle in the world -Sweet Willy is a 30-feet tall dog shaped building, located in Dog Bark Park Inn in Cottonwood, Idaho. The artists Dennis J. Sullivan and his wife, Frances Conklin, have built Sweet Willy in order to host the area visitors, offering a bed and breakfast.
