Ruby on Rails Engineer

Funny or Die, the Internet's premiere comedy site, is looking for a good Rails engineer to join the team. Our existing engineering team is headquartered in San Mateo and is responsible for the growth and maintenance of our web site and iOS and Android apps. We focus on building sites and apps that are fun, fast and deliver a world-class video viewing experience. The business is stable and profitable, with major investments from Turner Media, HBO and Sequoia Capital. Our website delivers about 60 million pageviews and 20 million uniques a month.
The team is very small and practices Agile development, so you'll be an important decision maker when building out new products. We care more about finding a good engineer who can comfortably fit into our culture than we do about diplomas, but you'll need to have some solid development experience under your belt. Good communication skills are also essential. We stay current with the Rails ecosystem and are starting to think about a major platform upgrade to coincide with Rails 4.0. We'll be rebuilding our site from scratch, so now is the perfect time to join!
Specific skills we're looking for include:
- Enthusiasm for our brand
- 2-5 years experience working on a production Rails app
- Startup mentality
- JavaScript and CoffeeScript experience (JQuery)
- HTML/CSS
- Good working knowledge of MySQL and relational databases
- Caching techniques at the object and page level
- Experience with redis, memcached and other datastores

Bay Area Summer Internships: Marketing or Engineering
Funny or Die’s Nor Cal office is seeking hard working, enthusiastic college interns. This is an unpaid internship; you MUST be able to receive college credit to apply. Responsibilities include general office duties (ordering, stocking, mailing, errands, etc.) and a variety of special marketing or engineering projects. Please note that this is not a production office; we are looking for interns interested in the back-end and business side of the entertainment industry. Interns must be quick on their feet, reliable, resourceful, and have a great sense of humor. This is a terrific opportunity for a college student to gain exposure to the industry.
For engineering interns, you'll have the opportunity to work side-by-side with crusty startup veterans on a very small, very agile team. You'll be doing all the boring grunt work they can't be bothered with, but you'll also be exposed to startup engineering culture and have opportunities to take on as much responsibility as you can handle. Our site is built with Ruby on Rails, but anyone with a bit of experience in html/css or native mobile platforms will do quite nicely.
For marketing interns, you'll have the opportunity to work on expanding our ever growing social media, while learning the in's and out's of startup marketing from attractive, youthful, and not-crusty marketing folks.
